Project Overview
The SouthPark Modern represents the intersection of contemporary architecture and reference-grade technology. The homeowners — avid film enthusiasts and music collectors — prioritized audio performance above all else, selecting Bowers & Wilkins' flagship 800 D4 speakers for the cinema and specifying distributed audio in every room including the garage, laundry, and walk-in closets.
The home's contemporary architecture — floor-to-ceiling glass, open floor plans, minimal millwork — demanded technology that complemented clean lines and negative space. Every speaker is flush-mounted. Every keypad is architecturally specified. Every screen and projector disappears when not in use.
Lutron HomeWorks QSX controls 48 lighting zones with Ketra tunable-white fixtures that adjust color temperature throughout the day — cool and energizing in the morning, warm and intimate in the evening — all automated based on time of day, occupancy, and natural light conditions.
The Challenge
Contemporary homes with extensive glass facades present two specific challenges: acoustic management and light control. Open floor plans with hard surfaces (concrete, glass, stone) create reflective acoustic environments that degrade audio quality. Floor-to-ceiling windows admit massive amounts of natural light that interfere with projection and screen viewing.
We addressed acoustics through strategic speaker placement, room treatment panels concealed within architectural reveals, and DSP calibration optimized for open-plan listening. Motorized shading on every glass facade provides solar management that adapts automatically — protecting furnishings, managing glare, and enabling daytime projection.
